The Pit of Endless Nightmares

The Pit of Endless Nightmares (#6/30; #249/365)

The Pit of Endless Nightmares is actually the mouth and gullet of an enormous creature, one of surprisingly many from the God Time, who lie scattered across the Demonic Pit, where they were flung after being defeated by various deities during the First Battle. (Some are also found on Titan, being similar in size if not appearance, such as the Land Blight or the Creature that forms the Shrine of Destiny.)

This particular creature appears as the top of a gargantuan gourd-like structure, whose mouth ('the entrance to the Pit') is open, and studded with gigantic triangular teeth that look more like weirdly shaped rocks than dentition apparatus. Most of the creature lies buried under the forest floor of the Western Dream Glades, and its gullet and other internal organs are riddled with foul Angarocs, as surely as tapeworms would infest a person. The sheer, soul-sucking presence of the Angarocs keeps most other Demons away.

However, this being the Demonic Pit, there are always hangers-on! Other internal colonists creating a diverse community within the Pit of Endless Nightmares include Fiend trappers, Vorpit metalworkers, and the occasional tribe of Qagdin fungus-foragers. This being the gastrointestinal tract of an enormous creature, anything within must lose 1 STAMINA a day due to slow-acting digestive acids. This creates a thriving trade between creatures for herbal salves and pick-me-ups to counter the external and internal wear and tear for inhabitants.

In addition, the infamous presence of the Angarocs provides cover for a rogue cell of insurgents from the Plane of Steel. This devious band is led by X'volta Cruelblade the Iron Demon (dexterous, violent) and a cohort of Death-Knights, all of whom wear scaly red Demonskin Armour and brandish wooden terbutje clubs, studded with sharp teeth. This hidden coven bides its time, reporting on the various demonic satraps and their domains in this corner of the Plane of Rust. X'volta has recently detected the arrival of the kidnapped Maker God Bisu on this plane, and is determined to send agents to the Free City of Thagwar to gather more intelligence.
