The CHAD is a curious creature, small in stature but abundant in ferocious hostility, particularly when hungry, which is most of the time. Thought to be related to other hyenids like the Mordida and the Gutterlag, it is dog-like in appearance with a yellowish furry coat covered in black spots, short powerful legs, and an oversized head whose jaws are packed with bone-crunching teeth. This snapping mouth is the Chad's main weapon, with which it will savage the flesh of its enemies and/or food.

The Chad dwells in marginal habitats; dusty plains, rocky wilderness and blistering deserts. It has developed a form of behavioural symbiosis alongside various formicid creatures, such as Giant Ants and the Xoroa. The Chad uses a tunnel or cave burrowed by these creatures as a lair, and in return provides a scavenging service, particularly in disposing of unwanted bones and carapaces. In addition, Chads make excellent guards, for their habit of howling a blood-curdling shriek, thus sounding the alarm, before leaping forward to bite and gnash at any intruder.

The Chad is used in the brutal sport of Chad-Fighting in lawless cities like Alasiyan or Shakuru. Here, trained Chads in spiked armour are set upon each other in sunken battle-pits, or loosed as a pack against a lone foe, like a Scytheran Desert Cat, Nandibear or condemned prisoner. Large sums of gold pieces may be exchanged in the betting on such bloodthirsty spectacles of gore, in these dusty arenas of the far wasteland!
