The Rogues' Guild of Pellod (#27/28; #58/365)
The Rogues' Guild of Pellod is loosely affiliated with similar but larger organizations further up and down the coast, such as those brother- and sisterhoods of thieves based in the cities of Blacksand, Rimon, Halak and Kaynlesh-Ma. Visiting thieves, if known, will be expected to refrain from practicing nefarious activities while in Pellod, unless granted permission by, or paying fees in advance to, the Rogues' Guild. All local thieves pay membership dues and a cut of their income to the Guild; 'unfortunate accidents' have been known to happen to those that do not.
The head of the Guild is Vessistra (keen hearing, forceful), who is always heavily robed and gloved for she is secretly a renegade Caarth, fleeing the demon-worshiping hierarchies of the Snake People for an easier life on the coast among the lesser races of humans, Dwarfs, Chervah and the like. Vessistra has been head of the Pellodian underworld for many years now; by keeping a lowish profile and limiting their operations to targeting strangers, travellers and visiting ships and traders. As a result the continual presence of the Guild is tolerated, and indeed, their stealthy skills utilized by all and sundry who need subterfuge and spycraft to obtain information and leverage.
The headquarters of the Guild is in the docks area, in the little-used warehouse of the poor flour merchant Chabak (spotty, scheming); in reality Vessistra's second or third in command (accounts vary). The Guild can be contacted by leaving a message with Candarul of the Siren's Lament tavern; a rendezvous will then be arranged, usually in a backroom or booth of the Wailing Ghoul inn. Typical operations include hiring out Guild members for expeditions (e.g. to the Found Tombs of Arvakaten), pilfering new ships in the harbour, or caravans visiting the Souq, and, rarely assassinations against individuals that various powers want out of the way.
