Cavern of the Bats (#3/30, #307/365)

"This large, high-ceiling cavern has several exits, little more than tight crawling tunnels really, leading away from it, while in the roof is a large rent through which the sky can be seen and sunlight shines through. Roosting on the ceiling are several Giant Bats that unfurl their wings and snarl at your approach. The floor of the cavern is covered in debris and bat-guano everywhere."

Contents: The Giant Bats will defend themselves if attacked during the day, unless confronted by fire, in which case they will soar out through the crevasse in the ceiling. At dusk or dawn, the bats will be out hunting through the uplands and absent from the cave.

On the floor, among the guano, bones and rubble, is the skeleton of an Orc from the Bronze Serpent Mercenary Company who clambered up here and attempted to capture one of the bats as a steed before being slaughtered by the flock. On their corpse is a Sword, a Leather Cuirass, 1-6 GP, and a coil of Rope (10 metres).
