Where things descend to land upon the mountain...

Mooring Point (#2/30, #306/365)

"This is a flat point on the mountain, a large ledge around six metres across, whose surface is bare rock, with some sand and small stones and the odd spiky bush. Sunk into the ledge is a hefty iron stake, somewhat rusted, and tied to which is a broken length of chain. At the back of the ledge, a low cave-mouth leads further into the mountain."

Contents: This ledge serves as a landing point for aerial travellers in the vicinity of Mount Gulugu. Roll a die, and on a 6, someone has landed here already - consult the table below to determine who. The stake and chain are used to tether various flying devices and steeds, typically balloon transport and the more intractable airborne creatures.

The cave itself contains the remains of several campfires, and a tunnel leading downwards, into the caverns. Also stashed around the cave are the caches of various travellers; for every successful Awareness search roll by a Hero, roll on the following table, ignoring identical finds, until all the caches have been discovered.

1. Food Parcel: Cache of 2-7 Provisions (salted meat, stale bread, jar of pickled onions), and 2-7 waterskins (half are full with brackish but drinkable water).

2. Good Times Gear: A leather satchel containing a full jug of local red wine (rough but ready flavour, restores 1-3 STAMINA points, drinking the entire jug in one sitting causes the reduction of -1 to Attack Strength for 1-3 hours), a pouch of Smoking Weed (Black Elf 'Gold Hookah' brand, see The Titan Herbal, p. 61, for effects) and a small bone pipe.

3. Balloon Repair Kit: A wooden box with an assortment of random-sized canvas pieces, a bone needle and thread, a Vial of Glue, a Vial of Mild Acid, a Jar of Salt, and the sharpened jawbone of a Sand Snapper to use as a scraping tool.,

4. Carpet Repair Kit: A cloth bag containing a ball of wool and a bone needle and thread.

5. Campfire Starter Set: A dusty shroud wrapped around a bundle of firewood, a flint and tinder, and 2-7 prepared Torches.

6. Exploration Pack: A small chest containing 1-3 Flasks of Oil, an old brass Lantern and a Jar of Ointment (restores 1-6 STAMINA points).

Roll a die to determine who has currently landed here:

1. Hot-Air Balloon: A large, lilac-coloured ballooon, operated by Selathas Vrint the Hamakei Wizard.

2. Hot-Air Balloon: A tan-coloured, cylinder-shaped balloon, operated by 2-4 DESERT ELVES (SKILL 8 STAMINA 6, Sword or Longbow, Leather Hauberk), also carrying Brass Telescopes, looking for Caarth snakefolk.

3. Flying Carpet: This large flying carpet is almost certainly controlled by Kharhanion the Competant transporting 1-3 wealthy passengers to (or back from) one of the following destinations (roll a die):

    1. Shazaar, and then on to Salamonis

    2. Sapphire City

    3. Pellod

    4. Tavern of Tan-Kha

    5. Halak and/or Rimon

    6. Oyster Bay

There is a 1 in 6 chance the carpet belongs to someone else (a mysterious mage, a powerful adventurer, a Black Elf sorcerer, etc.), in which case there will be no passengers, other than the flyer's minions or companions.

4. Desert Elf and Giant Eagle: A DESERT ELF messenger-scout (SKILL 8 STAMINA 6, Sword or Longbow, Leather Hauberk) with GIANT EAGLE (SKILL 6 STAMINA 11, Large Claws) flying steed.

5. Hag and Vulture: A gruesome HAG (SKILL 7 STAMINA 7, Dagger, MAGIC 7, 16 Magic Points, 2-7 Wizardry spells, can Curse once per day with DEVOTION score of 7) has alighted here with her GIANT VULTURE (SKILL 7 STAMINA 10, Large Claw) steed.

6. Dhelzar of the Dead Tree: An armoured BLACK ELF WARRIOR-NOBLE (SKILL 8 STAMINA 14, Sword, Chainmail Hauberk and Large Shield, has 4-24 GP) and their FIREDRAKE steed 'Moonflame' (SKILL 10 STAMINA 14, 3 Attacks, Large Claws and Bite, +1 to Damage Roll, Breathes Fire every 3 Attack Rounds at one opponent. Test versus Skill or lose 2 STAMINA damage).
