More weird herbs from the depths of Darkwood Forest...

WEEDLEWEED (#5/31, #126/365) [TTHA]

Appearance: This is a tall grass with long pale green leaves that grows in patches intermixed with other grasses.

Distribution: Plains and forests across Titan.

Effects: Weedleweed has no notable properties of its own, but it is usually infested with Tick-Ticks. These are tiny parasitic mites that not only suck their victim's blood but also infect them with the Sleeping Virus. This disease causes its victim to lapse into a deep sleep for 2-12 hours, unable to be woken except for magic, and lose 1 SKILL and 2 STAMINA due to the combined effects of the Tick-Tick bites and the Sleeping Virus. It requires a successful Test for Luck to avoid the Tick-Tick bites, and a second successful Test for Luck to avoid the effects of the Sleeping Virus.

Cost: Not available for sale

Availability: Uncommon

Further Notes: Certain carnivorous creatures such as Scorpion Bugs (see Out of the Pit IV, p. XX) often dig a burrow near patches of Weedleweed, emerging to consume anyone who has fallen asleep.

REDTHORN (#6/31, #127/365) [TTHA]

Appearance: This is a small tree with wrinkled reddish bark whose branches are covered in curved red thorns and feathery green leaves. The flowers are small, white and fluffy, and the tree also has flat red-brown seedpods.

Distribution: Forests, plains, Hills and wilderness across Titan.

Effects: The leaves of the Redthorn are mainly used as a herbal flavouring with food. In addition they are often mixed with Smoking Weed, as they negate the confusion and clumsiness caused by the stronger varieties of that intoxicant. Anyone who smokes Smoking Weed mixed with Redthorn leaf does not have to roll on the Smoking Weed effects tables, and may also add a +1 bonus when using their Awareness Special Skill, as the herbal combination heightens their senses. These effects last for 10-60 minutes.

Cost: City 1gp, Town 2gp, Village 3gp (per jar of leaves)

Availability: Common

NOOP (#7/31, #128/365) [TTHA]

Appearance: This is a tall shrub with tiny red flowers, pale grey-green spiny leaves, and circular mottled green seedpods.

Distribution: Forests and marshes across Titan.

Effects: The seedpods of Noop, when ground down into a mossy-green powder, are often used to enhance the flavour of food. Noop powder also improves one's hearing if snorted. Anyone who does so has the effect of listening to a conversation that they can see but may be out of earshot from, for 2-12 minutes, as their hearing is magically enhanced. However, this also makes them more sensitive to loud noises, and they will suffer double the penalty associated with a noise-based attack such as the scream of a Howl Cat, the high-pitched drone of Whistle Buds, or even the deployment of a Potion of Noise.

Cost: City 2gp, Town 4gp, Village 6gp (per jar of powder)

Availability: Uncommon

Distribution: Forests and hills across Titan.

Effects: The leaves and flowers of the Purple Pervalia (which is also known as the Purpleleaf Plant), can be ground down to create a vials of of potent purple vegetable dye. A vial of such dye will permanently stain something up to a man in size for 1-6 weeks. DEELIA (#9/31, #130/365) [TTHA]

Appearance: This is a low herb with rough green leaves and large pink flowers, each of which has five petals.

Distribution: Forests and plains across Titan.

Effects: The dried petals of the Deelia flower are often used as a garnishing for different kinds of food. Deelia petals also improve one's sense of smell if eaten. Anyone who eats a jar of Deelia petals will instantaneously become aware of different smells and the directions from which they emanate for 2-12 minutes, as their sense of smell is magically enhanced. However, this also makes them more sensitive to bad smells and foul stenches, and they will suffer double the penalty associated with a smell-based attack such as the stench of a Shael Beast or a Mucalytic, or even investigating the sewers of a city. In addition, consuming an entire jar of Deelia petals makes one nauseous and unable to eat provisions for 1-6 hours afterwards.
