Random Ruins

Ruins (#12/30; #102/365)

Ruins dot the desolate terrain around both Dust Town and Pellod. Most have been picked clean by generations of scavengers and are little more than a tumbled mass of scattered bricks and stones. However, there is a 1 in 6 chance that a particular ruin may not have yet been cleaned out. Roll on the table below to determine the provenance of the ruin and its likely inhabitants:

  1. Djaratian tomb: contains 1 MUMMY
  2. Vatosian treasure chamber: contains 1-2 FIENDS
  3. Carsepolitan outpost: contains 1-6 SKELETON WARRIORS
  4. Caarth observation dugout: contains 1-3 SERPENT GUARDS
  5. Hamakei cache: contains 1-3 FETCH
  6. Other (hovel, hut, shrine, etc.): contains a pack of 2-7 HYENAS, JACKALS or BABOONS

To determine treasure within the ruin, the Director can consult the relevant tables in the Encyclopedia Arcana: Volume 1 according to what creatures live in the ruins. Alternatively, they can use the treasure tables at the back of any of the 'Pit' monster books, and substitute the below table for determining appropriate Special Items:

3. Yokka Egg (one use)

4. Black Facemask

5. Bone Monkey Charm (one use).

6. Potion of Heat Resistance in a bamboo gourd (one use).

7. 1-3 valuables worth 25GP each. Roll 1d6 to determine the type of valuables: 1. Sandworm teeth (ivory), 2. Ebony statuettes, 3. Sapphire jewels, 4. Diamond gemstones, 5. Emerald jewels, 6. Bdellium gum-resin (incense)

8. Scroll of Translation on a papyrus parchment (one use).

9. Regeneration Crystal (one use)

10. Bracelet of Bone

11. Scorpion Brooch (one use)

12. Flying Carpet

All magical special items have been taken from the Encyclopedia Arcana: Volume 1. Note that all Gold Pieces will likely be in the currency of the ruin's original builders.
