The Bone Yard

The Bone Yard (#11/30; #101/365)

This is the Dust Town refuse tip and gets its name from some of the larger carcasses that are dumped here; the cartilaginous segments of enormous Sandworms, the bony skeletons of Desert Bison, and even the occasional bleached carapace of a Giant Tortoise. Of course, plenty of other trash is tossed here as well, and scavenging among the debris of the Bone Yard at any given time will be 2-7 HYENAS, 1-6 JACKALS and 2-7 VULTURES.

Master of the Bone Yard is Kungol (deaf, violent), a GNOLL butcher of sorts, and 2-12 Goblin helpers. Kungol was exiled from the Tusk-Gnasher tribe on level one of the Found Tombs of Arvakaten after a leadership dispute, and spends much of his time at the Bone Yard drinking Sidiki and formulating elaborate but unfulfilled plans of revenge against his former clan.

At the front of the Bone Yard will be 2-7 scrap sellers with a variety of trash for sale, displayed on dusty blankets or rush mats. To see what is for sale, use the random Junk table from Encyclopedia Arcana: Volume 1 (pp. 42-43) to determine what they are offering, with a 1 in 6 chance of something more valuable from the Gear table (see Encyclopedia Arcana: Volume 1, pp. 44-45). Gear objects will be sold at half the Town prices listed for the item normally; Junk items will be sold for 2-12GP each, and their many imaginary magical properties extolled exhaustively.

Despite the fact it is called a Bone Yard, most valuable pieces of ivory, in the form of teeth, horns, spikes, claws and bones, are long gone. However, should a Hero with Monster Lore successfully search the Bone Yard extensively, they may have a cumulative 1 in 6 chance of finding something valuable (roll on the Ivory table in Encyclopedia Arcana: Volume 1, p. 89) for every hour they spend here. They may also, of course, catch some kind of horrible disease!
